The Southwest Community Concert Band is honored to return to Centennial Park West this September for one of the most meaningful evenings on our calendar: the Village of Orland Park's Patriot Day Free Concert, marking the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.
This year's event is more than a concert — it's a community-wide ceremony of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude, and our band is proud to provide the musical heart of the evening from start to finish.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket, gather the family, and join your neighbors for an evening honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the first responders who ran toward danger to save others.
An Evening of Music, Memory, and Unity
The evening opens at 5:00 PM with a set from Nuclear Jazz Quartet, setting a relaxed tone as the community gathers in the park.
At 6:30 PM, the tone shifts to one of solemn remembrance as the official 25th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony begins. Our band plays a central role throughout the ceremony, providing music that underscores the evening's most significant moments — from the processional of VIPs, first responders, and honored guests, through a heartfelt musical tribute, to the ceremony's quietest and most reflective passages, including the reading of victims' names, a moment of silence, and the ringing of the memorial bell.
The formal ceremony will also include the Presentation of the Colors by Veterans Voices, the National Anthem performed by a children's choir, an invocation from a local pastor, remarks from the Mayor recognizing first responders and service members, and a patriotic singalong led by a community choir.
The Celebration Begins
Once the commemoration concludes around 7:00 PM, the Southwest Community Concert Band takes the stage for a full patriotic concert set, running until approximately 8:00 PM. Expect the rousing marches, patriotic favorites, and crowd singalongs that have made our outdoor summer concerts a Southwest Suburbs tradition — the perfect way to close out an evening of remembrance with a spirit of hope and unity.
Why This Concert Matters
Patriot Day was first observed on September 11, 2002, following a congressional resolution and a proclamation by President George W. Bush, and it has since become a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Twenty-five years after the attacks, this milestone anniversary is a moment for our whole community to pause together — to honor the courage of first responders, the resilience of survivors and families, and the unity that emerged from tragedy.
The Southwest Community Concert Band is deeply honored that the Village of Orland Park has entrusted us with providing the musical backbone of this historic commemoration. Music has a unique power to hold space for grief and gratitude at the same time, and we take that responsibility seriously.
