Spring Concert

The SWCCB will Strike up the Band, as we will perform the music of George Gershwin. At the age of 38 his life was cut short by a brain tumor. Music was everything to him, it was the air he breathed, the food he ate, and it was his way of life. He had talents no other American composer at the time could touch and his influence on American music was monumental. Ultimately it was his gift of melody that provided his audiences with the intoxicatingly beautiful works we never tire of hearing.

Our concert selections will include such classics as; Strike up the Band, Porgy & Bess, and An American in Paris.  Scheduled to appear will be members from NightBlue Theater Group. We will also perform a recently discovered work by Gershwin called Japanese. This work was written when Gershwin was a young composer, and has more vaudevillian flair to it.

Join us June 1, 2008 we feature the centennial celebration of the American composer Leroy Anderson.  Watch for more details in the coming months about this performance. 

Scholarship winners will be announced at this concert.
